Proverbs 31 Woman: The Girl Boss of the Bible

I’m sure everyone of us has heard teaching on The Proverbs 31 Woman but I would love to share my personal thoughts with you. There are so many things we can take from this chapter. I am going to focus on just a few things that stand out to me though.

She was a willing vessel

“She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.” Such a tedious task like making clothes, yet she was willing, (the NIV describes as even “eager”) to do this for her family.

I don’t know about you but, at our house just WASHING the clothes I bought from the store, is a struggle, right? And I’ll be honest, usually when it comes to house work, I’m just trying to get something over with so I can have time to do my own thing.

Her priorities were on point!

“She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.”

She’s not distracted by frivolous things. In today’s world distractions are a big issue. Even non Christians are taking monthly Media breaks. Our phones keep our minds so busy all the time and yet, making us feel like we have accomplished something. It’s harder than ever to really focus on the important things in our life and modern society is really seeing the unhealthy consequences of that lately.

I feel like time management is so key when it comes to priorities.  I’m going to be trying something out called “Time Batching”. Which I first heard about from an amazing You Tuber, Amy Landino. Click here to check out the video.

Now I’d like to focus on some of the verses that would suggest she was a Bible time business woman.

“She considereth a field, and buyeth it; with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.”

Back in this day and time, I don’t think that this was okay for just every woman, but I want to point out this woman had gained the approval and trust of her Husband. “The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.”

She had proven her trustworthiness to him. She had the ability to manage these things and he recognized that. There are so many scriptures I could point out here about how she was a very frugal woman. Commentaries suggest that, “She bringeth her food from a far” meant that she went out looking for the best deals.

I don’t know about you but I have a hard time with this. I just want to hit up one store and call it a day. I know there’s so many ways I could save money, just by taking the time to do things a bit differently.

“She maketh fine linen, and selleth it and delivereth Girdles unto the merchant.”

Okay so, not only does she make wise decisions with her husband’s money but she also finds way’s to make a profit herself? This realization, honestly stopped me in my tracks.

In the past I have been made to feel bad or less than for wanting to help my husband provide for our family. I feel like there is nothing wrong with wanting to help bring in some income, especially if your husband is struggling and you want to help.

Seeing that the example woman herself earned money from her creativity; just really encouraged me honestly.

So how to we become more like the Proverbs 31 Woman without going crazy?

First of all, A lot of what she did was based on the culture and time in which she lived in. Some of the things are just not realistic now. She took time to think on what would benefit her family financially, what would bring joy to her family and ways to make their life simpler.

If you read My Last Post comparing Minimalism concepts to Biblical principles, then you know that I’m all for simplifying our life and focusing on what will truly bring joy.

I feel like I should clarify something. It would be impossible to start implementing everything from this chapter all at one time. That would be insane! But. I do feel like taking one thing from this chapter to work on at a time is the smartest way to grow and become more like this incredible example.

In the coming weeks I will be working on time management and doing things out of Love of others instead of myself.

Let me know in the comments what you will be working on!

I think we probably all have different perspectives of what being a Proverbs 31 Woman is all about. I see this woman as a strong determined lady that worked for the best interest of her family’s finances and needs.
